NBA Finals 2026: Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama Says Knicks Fan Egg Throwing “Doesn’t Bother Me”
Victor Wembanyama said he was not bothered after New York Knicks fans were seen throwing eggs and other objects at him and the San Antonio Spurs following Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night. The incident occurred after the Knicks completed a historic comeback win to take a 3-1 series lead, and video circulated showing fans targeting Wembanyama and his teammates as they returned to their team hotel. One clip appeared to show an egg landing near the Spurs star as he turned toward the crowd before walking into the hotel entrance.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Wembanyama downplayed the episode and said he had only seen one video of the eggs. He added that the behavior was not good, but said it did not affect him personally. When asked whether he knew eggs were among the objects thrown, he said he heard things happening but did not clearly see what was being hurled. He suggested it may have been a bottle, noting that the bus had been splashed with water, but said he was not certain.
The New York Police Department reported 15 arrests after Wednesday’s game, along with 41 criminal court summonses, according to The Athletic. The crowd trouble added to the tense atmosphere surrounding the Knicks’ victory and the aftermath of the upset, which left San Antonio facing a steep challenge in the championship series.
Wembanyama’s comments came as the Spurs tried to regroup after blowing a 29-point lead in Game 4 and missing key free throws late in the game. His focus, and that of the team, now turns to Game 5, which is set for Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. ET at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. The Spurs need a win to force a Game 6 in New York on Tuesday, while a loss would end their championship run.
Despite the hostile behavior from some fans, Wembanyama appeared intent on moving past the incident and concentrating on the task ahead. The 7-foot-4 center’s response suggested he views the situation as part of the intensity that can come with high-stakes playoff basketball. San Antonio will be hoping to turn the page quickly and respond on the court as the series continues.
