J.Lo Mentions Maid in Manhattan While Discussing Her New Office Romance Rom-Com, and Fans Are Ready to Sign Up

Jennifer Lopez is drawing comparisons between her upcoming romantic comedy Office Romance and one of her most beloved past hits, Maid in Manhattan, as she promotes the new Netflix film. In a recent interview on SiriusXM, Lopez said the new movie reminds her of Maid in Manhattan because of its strong supporting cast and the chemistry at the center of the story. She praised the ensemble dynamic in the 2002 romantic comedy, which also featured Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, Natasha Richardson, and Tyler Posey, and suggested that Office Romance has a similar energy with its own standout group of performers.

In Office Romance, Lopez stars opposite Brett Goldstein, and the two have already sparked attention in the film’s trailer for their apparent chemistry. Lopez spoke warmly about Goldstein, who also co-wrote the script with Joe Kelly, and said she was immediately drawn to the material. She and her producing partner, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, reportedly responded quickly to the project because they found it funny and appealing. Lopez also revealed that the movie was developed with her in mind, adding that if she had passed on it, the film might not have been made at all.

The cast of Office Romance includes a number of familiar faces, among them Betty Gilpin, Amy Sedaris, Tony Hale, and Bradley Whitford. Lopez said that, like Maid in Manhattan, the new film benefits from more than just the lead romance, with a supporting ensemble that helps elevate the story. She described the movie as a classic romantic comedy with a sharper edge, saying it has the DNA of a traditional love story but also includes harder jokes and a slightly more daring tone than a typical JLo rom-com.

Lopez’s comments come as fans have been waiting for her return to the romantic comedy genre. Her last two rom-coms, Marry Me with Owen Wilson and Shotgun Wedding with Josh Duhamel, both arrived in 2022. With Office Romance, she is stepping back into familiar territory while promising something a little different. The film appears to blend nostalgia with a more modern sense of humor, which may help it connect with audiences looking for the kind of feel-good romance that made Lopez such a box-office draw in the first place.

The project has also fueled speculation about off-screen chemistry between Lopez and Goldstein, with reports and fan chatter describing an on-set “flirt fest.” Lopez has continued to speak highly of her co-star, previously calling him the best kisser, adding to the buzz around the pairing.

Lopez also drew attention for how she celebrated finishing the film, posing in a pink bikini on the beach, a look that surprised some fans and added to the excitement surrounding the project. With its familiar romantic-comedy appeal, strong ensemble, and Lopez’s enthusiasm for the material, Office Romance is positioned as one of the summer’s notable streaming releases. The film is set to debut on Netflix on June 5.
