Moon Today: Check the Moon Phase This Saturday, June 6, 2026

On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the Moon is in the full moon phase, with about 72% visibility and gradually decreasing. According to the Brazilian National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), the next lunar phase change will be the waning moon on Monday, June 8, at 7:03 a.m. The lunar cycle for June continues with the new moon on June 14 at 11:56 p.m., the waxing moon on June 21 at 6:55 p.m., and the full moon again on June 29 at 8:58 p.m.
The Moon’s cycle, also called a lunation, lasts an average of 29.5 days and begins with the new moon before progressing through the main phases: waxing, full, and waning. Each of these phases lasts roughly seven days, although the timing can vary slightly from cycle to cycle. In addition to the four main phases, there are intermediate stages known as waxing crescent, waxing gibbous, waning gibbous, and last quarter, which mark the gradual transition between the principal phases.
During the new moon, the Moon is positioned between Earth and the Sun, making the illuminated side face away from observers on Earth. As a result, it is not visible in the night sky. This phase marks the start of a new lunar cycle and is often associated with beginnings and fresh opportunities.
The waxing phase follows the new moon, and a growing portion of the Moon becomes visible each night. At first, only a thin bright arc can be seen, but the illuminated area steadily increases until half of the Moon is visible at the first quarter. This phase is linked to growth and the development of new paths.
In the full moon phase, Earth lies between the Sun and the Moon, allowing the side facing Earth to be fully illuminated. This makes the Moon appear bright and fully visible in the night sky. It is the most luminous stage of the lunar cycle and is associated with completion, intensity, and peak energy.
After the full moon, the waning phase begins. The visible illuminated portion gradually shrinks each night until only half remains at the last quarter. The Moon continues to dim as it moves toward the new moon, completing the cycle and preparing for the next one. The waning phase is commonly linked to reflection, closure, and transition.
For June 2026, the lunar calendar shows a clear progression through all four main phases over the month, offering a complete view of the Moon’s monthly cycle.
