Love Island USA Producer James Barker Dies After Medical Emergency in Fiji

The Love Island team is grieving the death of producer James Barker, who died after an unexpected medical emergency while filming in Fiji, according to a joint statement from ITV America and Peacock on June 15. He was 40.

Barker had worked on Love Island since 2020, joining the series as a story producer before being promoted to executive producer ahead of season four. Over the years, he became a familiar and valued part of the production behind Love Island USA.

In their statement, ITV America and Peacock said Barker’s loss has been deeply felt across the Love Island USA production as well as throughout both companies. They described him as a beloved member of the team whose kindness, talent and dedication left a lasting impact on everyone who knew and worked with him.

The statement also offered condolences to Barker’s partner, family, friends and colleagues, acknowledging the personal and professional void left by his death.

Love Island USA plans to honor Barker during its June 16 episode. The tribute comes as the series and its production community remember his contributions to the show and the people around him.

Barker’s death has cast a somber note over the production in Fiji, where the reality dating series has been filming. His role behind the scenes helped shape the show across multiple seasons, and colleagues remembered him not only for his work but also for the warmth and commitment he brought to the set.

The loss comes during a major moment for Love Island USA, which continues to draw attention as one of Peacock’s most visible reality series. Barker’s death has highlighted the close-knit nature of the production and the impact he had on the team over several years.

As the show moves forward, its on-air tribute is expected to serve as a public acknowledgment of Barker’s influence behind the scenes and the respect he earned from his coworkers.
