Javier Bardem Says He and Penélope Cruz’s Child Hasn’t Watched His Films Yet
Javier Bardem says his children are not particularly interested in his acting career and have not watched most of his films. In a recent interview with E! News, the Oscar-winning actor shared that his and wife Penelope Cruz’s children, Leo, 15, and Luna, 12, have seen very little of his work, while they have watched all of Cruz’s movies. Bardem said the kids have not seen any of his films in general, though he noted one exception: the 2007 thriller No Country for Old Men, in which he played the ruthless hitman Anton Chigurh.
Bardem said he uses the film in a playful way at home when his children ignore requests to put away their phones or computers. According to the actor, he jokingly makes them sit down and watch No Country for Old Men, adding that the intense movie quickly gets their attention and makes them stop using their devices. The comment was delivered humorously during a joint interview with his Cape Fear co-stars Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson.
The interview also touched on the stars’ children and how they respond to their parents’ careers. Bardem said his children have shown much more familiarity with Penelope Cruz’s work than with his own. For Adams and Wilson, their children reportedly have different levels of interest in acting as well, suggesting that celebrity parents do not always have children who are eager to follow or watch their professional work.
Bardem and Cruz, one of Hollywood’s best-known couples, have generally kept their family life private. Their children are now entering their teenage years, and Bardem’s remarks suggest that like many kids, they are more focused on their own interests than on revisiting their parents’ filmographies. Even so, Bardem’s lighthearted story showed that he can use one of his most famous and darker roles as a humorous tool in everyday parenting.
The actor’s comments highlighted both his sense of humor and the contrast between his serious screen persona and life at home. While Bardem is known for powerful, often intense performances, his children’s reaction appears to be shaped less by his awards and reputation and more by their own preferences. His anecdote about No Country for Old Men offered a candid look at family life, showing that even an acclaimed actor may not be able to get his children to become fans of his work.
