James Van Der Beek’s Ex-Wife Heather McComb Marries in Surprise Wedding

Heather McComb, the ex-wife of late actor James Van Der Beek, has remarried actor Scott Michael Campbell in an outdoor wedding ceremony in Montana. McComb announced the marriage on Instagram on Sunday, sharing photos from the celebration that showed the couple’s scenic ceremony in Missoula and details from the bride’s outfit, including sparkly white cowboy boots and socks reading “I heart my husband.” She later posted another image showing her socks covered in dirt and the silver-and-white sneakers she switched into during the festivities.

In her post, McComb said she and Campbell were “officially married” under the covenant of God, and that her sister officiated the ceremony surrounded by loved ones. She described the weekend as full of love, gratitude, and blessings, thanking family and friends who traveled from across the country to attend. Campbell also marked the occasion on Instagram, calling himself “beyond blessed” and praising McComb as a “beautiful soul.”

McComb, 49, was married to Van Der Beek from 2003 to 2010. Van Der Beek later married Kimberly, and the couple had six children together: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel Leah, Emilia, Gwendolyn, and Jeremiah. Van Der Beek died in February at age 48 after battling colorectal cancer.

Following his death, McComb shared a tribute on Instagram, posting a throwback photo of the two together and expressing heartbreak for his wife, children, and family. She remembered Van Der Beek as a “beautiful soul” with light, love, talent, humor, depth, sensitivity, knowledge, and a deep love of God. She also said he was humble, human, and always striving to grow and explore beyond his comfort zone.

The remarriage brings renewed attention to McComb’s personal life after years away from the spotlight. Her wedding posts highlighted a joyful and intimate celebration in Montana, framed by family, faith, and memories of the past. For fans of Van Der Beek and “Dawson’s Creek,” the news adds another chapter to the lives of those connected to the late actor, whose death in February prompted tributes from colleagues, friends, and former loved ones.

McComb’s announcement reflects both a new beginning and a moment of reflection, as she honored the support of her community while also carrying forward the memory of her former husband.
