Global Announces Final Season of Big Brother on Network Run: National

Global has announced that Season 28 of Big Brother will be the final season of the long-running reality competition to air on the network. The new season premieres Thursday, July 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with Big Brother: Unlocked returning the next day on Friday, July 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. A 90-minute Sunday episode will air on July 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Global and STACKTV.
The network said the decision marks the end of a major run for the franchise in Canada. Global has carried Big Brother since the series launched in 2000, making it the Canadian home of the show for more than two decades. Jennifer Abrams, senior vice-president of content and marketing at Corus Entertainment, said the company was proud of that long partnership but is now shifting its summer programming strategy.
According to Abrams, Corus is looking to refresh Global’s summer lineup and create space for new programming opportunities in the year ahead. She said the network remains committed to delivering strong summer content, with an emphasis on broad mainstream hits and new formats designed to engage audiences across both linear television and streaming platforms.
Following the premiere, Big Brother will continue its regular summer schedule with episodes airing Wednesdays from 8 to 9:30 p.m., Thursdays for hour-long live eviction broadcasts, and Sundays from 8 to 9 p.m. on Global and STACKTV. The season will also mark a major milestone for the franchise, with CBS confirming that Big Brother will air its 1,000th episode during Season 28. CBS says the series is the first primetime show to reach that number.
Hosted by Julie Chen Moonves, Big Brother follows a group of strangers living together under constant surveillance for a summer of alliances, secrets, showmances, strategy, and eliminations. The players competing for the US$750,000 grand prize will be announced later in the summer.
Big Brother: Unlocked will offer a behind-the-scenes companion format, featuring exclusive house footage, extended interviews, surprise guest appearances, and extra gameplay analysis. For the first time, the series will include a live studio audience. The program is set to expand the fan experience with new segments and returning favourites, beginning Friday, July 10 at 8 p.m. ET on Global and STACKTV.
