First Look at Laufey in God of War on PlayStation Blog

Santa Monica Studio has announced the next mainline entry in the God of War series, titled God of War Laufey, with Faye, also known as Laufey, taking center stage. The story begins after her funeral, when Faye unexpectedly awakens in a strange realm and discovers that the plans she made to protect Kratos and Atreus are now in danger. To keep her family safe, she must fight through the afterlife of the gods, known as the Everywhen, where powerful deities from different mythologies compete for control in a world filled with dangerous magic.
The studio says the game will keep the franchise’s signature identity intact, combining intimate and brutal combat, rich exploration, and a strong narrative focus. According to the developers, a major goal has been to create a combat style for Faye that feels fresh while still aligning with the expectations of longtime God of War fans. The game blends the movement and fluidity associated with the series’ Greek-era games with the world-building and character-driven storytelling of the Norse era.
God of War Laufey also expands on Faye’s backstory, moving her from a supporting figure in the Norse saga to the main protagonist. The developers describe her as a legendary warrior and leader whose influence shaped the Nine Realms long before she met Kratos. The story will explore her humanity, strengths, and flaws while revealing more about the mystery of the afterlife of the gods.
The Everywhen is presented as a transcendent realm where magic returns to its source and where gods and creatures from multiple mythologies exist together, often in conflict. Among the figures Faye encounters are Sekhmet and Begtse, two hostile gods who make clear that the realm is not a safe place. Faye soon learns that leaving the Everywhen may be even harder than entering it, especially with the natural flow of magic disrupted. As she searches for a way home, she must uncover the realm’s hidden truths and determine whether it is a paradise, a prison, or something in between.
The cast includes Deborah Ann Woll returning as Faye, alongside Jack Quaid as Phranque, a cosmic cube devoted to protecting his friends, and Perlina Lau as Rue, an enchanted ribbon guardian responsible for a powerful sword. Together, they will face gods and creatures from across mythology, as well as inhabitants native to the Everywhen itself.
Combat in God of War Laufey is built around Faye’s speed, agility, and power. The developers say she can move smoothly between ground and air, maintaining relentless momentum in battle. Her abilities also center on soul manipulation, drawing from her role as the Golden Hand of the Jötnar. In the Everywhen, her powers are amplified, allowing her to separate an enemy’s soul from its body and attack it directly in combat. The game is now available to wishlist on the PlayStation Store and is coming soon to PlayStation 5.
