Tax-Free Day Will Offer 70% Discounts on Electronics, Clothing, Books and More

Brazil’s 2026 Day Without Taxes (Dia Livre de Impostos, or DLI) takes place on Thursday, May 28, giving consumers across the country a chance to buy selected goods and services without the taxes normally included in retail prices. The campaign is held in stores across Brazil’s 26 states and the Federal District and is designed to highlight the impact of taxation on everyday spending. Discounts can reach as much as 70% off the final price of products and services, depending on the participating business.
The initiative is organized by the National Confederation of Store Managers (CNDL) and CDL Jovem, the youth arm of the store managers’ association, and has been running for 20 years. Its main goal is to draw attention from consumers, public authorities, and the retail sector to Brazil’s high tax burden and the way it affects the cost of essential goods and services such as health care, education, transportation, and security.
According to CNDL, the campaign also seeks to encourage discussion about the need for a fairer, more efficient, and less bureaucratic tax system. Organizers argue that a better tax structure could strengthen competitiveness, help businesses operate more effectively, and reduce social inequalities in the country.
Participation in the event requires registration by stores and businesses through CNDL’s platform. Retailers must enroll their company in the system in order to offer tax-free pricing during the campaign. In 2025, more than 50,000 retailers took part, along with several shopping centers across Brazil, showing the scale and reach of the initiative.
Consumers do not need to register to benefit from the promotions. Instead, they can check which stores are taking part and look for the discounted items and services available during the event. The exact offers vary by retailer, so shoppers are encouraged to confirm details directly with participating stores before making a purchase.
Large marketplaces generally do not participate on a wide scale in the campaign, although some advertisers may offer promotions. The event is focused mainly on physical stores in different parts of Brazil.
A wide range of categories is included in the Day Without Taxes program. These typically cover food and beverages, automobiles and transportation, home and décor, education and culture, electronics and technology, tools, books and stationery, fashion and beauty, optical products, pet shops, health and wellness, and services.
To find current deals, consumers can contact participating stores directly or check each business’s website and social media channels. The campaign continues to serve both as a shopping opportunity and as a public statement about the effects of taxation on Brazilian consumers.
