Extra Late Train Added for Edinburgh Fans After Hampden Shows

ScotRail is preparing for large crowds ahead of sell-out concerts, with thousands of fans expected to travel to the events and extra rail capacity planned between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida. The train operator has urged passengers to plan their journeys in advance, arrive early, and allow additional time because congestion is expected around the venue and on services serving the station.
Mount Florida station, which is a short walk from the stadium, is expected to be a major transport hub on concert nights. ScotRail said trains through the area will be busier than normal and reminded passengers that valid tickets will be required before boarding. The company is also asking customers to buy return tickets ahead of time to help reduce delays and improve flow at busy times.
To cope with the surge in demand, ScotRail said it will add more seats and extra services, including additional late-night trains for customers heading home after the shows. More staff will also be deployed across the network to support crowd management, assist passengers, and help ensure safe travel.
Phil Campbell, ScotRail customer operations director, said rail travel is one of the easiest and most convenient ways for fans to reach the concerts, given the close proximity of Mount Florida station to the stadium. He added that because the events are sell-outs, customers should prepare ahead of time, leave extra room for travel delays, and secure their return tickets before arrival.
The operator said it is working to keep services moving safely while meeting the increased demand associated with the concerts. With large numbers of people expected to travel at the same time, ScotRail’s advice is aimed at reducing pressure at stations and helping passengers board trains efficiently.
The travel plan is part of a wider effort to manage the impact of major events on the rail network, where passenger numbers can rise sharply before and after performances. ScotRail said the combination of extra capacity, late-night services, and additional staff should help support a smoother journey for concertgoers.
Fans heading to the sell-out shows are being told to check schedules, plan their return in advance, and expect crowds at both trains and stations. The company says early preparation will be important for anyone using the rail network on concert nights, especially around Glasgow Central and Mount Florida, where demand is likely to be highest.
