Ella Hunt and Avantika Join Mindy Kaling at “Not Suitable for Work” NYC Premiere

Mindy Kaling and the cast of Hulu’s upcoming series Not Suitable for Work attended the New York City premiere on Thursday, May 28, at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn, New York. Avantika and Ella Hunt joined Kaling on the red carpet for the screening, while additional cast members in attendance included Jack Martin, Will Angus, Nicholas Duvernay, Jay Ellis, Constance Wu, Victor Garber, and Harry Richardson.
The new series follows five ambitious twenty-somethings who are deeply focused on their careers while trying to find happiness in their personal lives, all set in Manhattan’s stylish Murray Hill neighborhood. The show explores the pressure, hope, and uncertainty that come with early adulthood in New York City, where professional success often feels both urgent and out of reach.
Kaling said the series was inspired by her own experience of moving to New York in her early 20s. She described that period as a time when she felt underestimated and eager to reach a stage in life where she would have more money, confidence, and recognition. She said those emotions and ambitions remain vivid to her, and they helped shape the world of the show.
When asked whether any of the characters are directly based on her, Kaling said that while viewers may identify one character with her, her creative process is more personal and layered. She explained that each character contains part of her own personality, suggesting the series draws from multiple aspects of her life and perspective rather than a single autobiographical figure.
Not Suitable for Work is set to premiere on Hulu on June 2 and is expected to blend workplace ambition, friendship, romance, and the challenges of trying to build a life in New York City. The premiere event highlighted the ensemble cast and the show’s focus on young professionals navigating both career pressure and emotional growth in one of Manhattan’s most desirable neighborhoods.
The screening marked one of the first major public appearances for the cast ahead of the series launch. With Kaling at the center as creator, the project adds to her long track record of comedy series that explore identity, ambition, and the complexities of modern adulthood. The premiere photos captured a polished and upbeat cast introduction as Hulu prepares to debut the new title to viewers.
