David Mamet to Direct Feature Film Russian Poland
Archstone Entertainment has acquired worldwide sales rights to Russian Poland, a new feature film written and set to be directed by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and two-time Academy Award-nominated filmmaker David Mamet. The project will be produced by Barry Germansky, with Scott Martin and Michael Slifkin serving as executive producers. Archstone plans to launch international sales at the Toronto market, while casting is expected to begin this summer ahead of a planned spring 2027 production start.
The film is set in 1948 and centers on two Jewish-American World War II veterans who disguise themselves as British airmen and steal a bomber in order to transport arms to Israel. Their mission takes an unexpected turn when a mysterious elderly Holocaust survivor joins them on board. As he tells unsettling parables about a lost shtetl, the journey becomes more than a covert operation and evolves into a spiritual and emotional reckoning. The story follows the three men as they confront questions of survival, memory and purpose while flying toward the coast.
Mamet, whose work spans both stage and screen, is known for titles including Glengarry Glen Ross, The Untouchables, The Verdict, American Buffalo, House of Games, Hoffa, The Edge, The Spanish Prisoner, Wag the Dog, Heist, Henry Johnson and the upcoming Speed-the-Plow. His next stage revival is set to star Anthony Mackie, Ben Mendelsohn, Emily Alyn Lind and Sharon Stone.
Archstone said the film fits its focus on filmmaker-driven, elevated cinema. Scott Martin, speaking for the company, called Mamet “one of the great American storytellers” and described Russian Poland as a distinctive project from “one of the most important writer-directors of our time.” He added that Archstone is honored to bring the film to the global marketplace as a personal and resonant story with broad appeal.
With its historical setting, wartime intrigue and spiritual themes, Russian Poland represents a new chapter in Mamet’s career and adds another high-profile title to Archstone’s international sales slate.
