Brooks Koepka Withdraws From Canadian Open After Hand Injury

Brooks Koepka will not be in contention for a Sunday finish at the RBC Canadian Open after slipping back in the third round. Koepka opened the tournament with a strong 6-under 64, which left him in a six-way tie for the lead after the first round. He stayed near the top with a second-round 68, but his chances faded on Saturday when he carded a 2-over 72.
The 36-year-old appeared to be dealing with discomfort before the round, showing signs of pain while warming up on the range. That seemed to affect his performance as the tournament moved into the weekend, preventing him from mounting a serious charge heading into the final round.
Koepka’s appearance at the RBC Canadian Open comes during his return to the Tour this season after spending time competing on LIV Golf. The five-time major champion has been working his way back into the PGA Tour spotlight and remains one of the biggest names in the field whenever he tees it up.
Even with his struggle in Canada, Koepka remains focused on next week’s U.S. Open, where he is already in the field. The championship begins Thursday at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York, a venue that holds strong memories for him. Koepka won the U.S. Open the last time it was played at Shinnecock in 2018, reinforcing his reputation as one of the game’s strongest major championship performers.
His performance at the Canadian Open may not have held up through the weekend, but Koepka still enters the season’s next major with a proven track record and an opportunity to contend again at a course where he has already succeeded.
