Ariana Grande Releases New Song “Hate That I Made You Love Me”
Ariana Grande has released “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” the lead single from her upcoming album Petal. The song was co-written and produced by Grande, Ilya, and Max Martin, and it arrives with a comic-book-inspired lyric video. The track marks the first official preview of the album, which continues Grande’s recent run of new music after years focused largely on film and other projects.
Petal is scheduled for release on July 31 through Republic Records. It is executive produced and co-written by Grande and Ilya, the Swedish producer and longtime collaborator who has worked with her since her 2014 breakthrough hit “Problem.” Grande has described the album as something “full of life” that grows “through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging,” suggesting a project shaped by resilience and emotional contrast.
The new era follows Grande’s return to live performance this summer. Her first major tour in seven years is set to begin in June, making it one of her biggest music moves in years. In recent seasons, Grande has spent much of her time on screen, including starring roles in the Wicked film franchise and Focker-in-Law, the latest entry in the Meet the Parents series. Her return to touring and new album cycle signals a renewed focus on music after an extended period of crossover work in film.
Earlier this month, Grande also shared “Knew Better Part Two,” a previously unreleased outtake from Dangerous Woman, giving fans another look at material from her earlier catalog. The release added to anticipation around her current creative phase and reinforced interest in both her past and future projects.
With “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” Grande begins the rollout for Petal with a polished pop single backed by two of her most important collaborators. The combination of Grande, Ilya, and Max Martin places the song firmly within the hitmaking tradition that has defined much of her career, while the album’s concept and timing point to a new chapter for the singer as she balances music, touring, and film.
