Anvisa suspends Crystal mineral water over bacteria contamination

Brazil’s health regulator Anvisa has ordered the suspension of sale, distribution, and consumption of a specific batch of Crystal brand still mineral water after a laboratory test found the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa in a sample collected during a routine inspection in the Federal District. The product belongs to the Coca-Cola system and was manufactured by Mineração Bom Jesus Ltda. in Luziânia, Goiás. The company had already initiated a voluntary recall before Anvisa’s decision was formally published on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
The affected batch is identified on the bottle label as LZ1 VAL 200127 3 P 200126. According to the information released, it was produced on January 20, 2026, and carries an expiration date of January 20, 2027. Anvisa said the measure applies only to this lot and prohibits its sale, distribution, and use.
Authorities said the finding came from a fiscal analysis process that included a counter-test, which confirmed the presence of the bacteria in the sample. Following the result, the Federal District’s sanitary surveillance authority ordered a local interdiction and informed Anvisa. The regulator’s action is limited to the specific lot identified in the test.
Consumers who have bottles from the recalled batch are being advised not to drink the water. Anyone who has the product at home should contact the manufacturer’s customer service for guidance on replacement or refund. The company’s SAC can be reached at 0800-061-5000 or by email at contato@brasal.com.br.
Mineração Bom Jesus said nearly all units from the lot have already been removed from retail points. The company estimated that about 99% of the 374,400 bottles in the batch have been collected. It said the recall began immediately after notification and that there have been no consumer complaints related to this lot in its official service channels so far.
The company said the batch was distributed in the Federal District, neighboring cities in Goiás, parts of Tocantins, and inland São Paulo. In Goiás, sales reportedly reached cities including Luziânia, Novo Gama, Valparaíso de Goiás, Águas Lindas de Goiás, Cidade Ocidental, Santo Antônio do Descoberto, Planaltina de Goiás, Cristalina, Formosa, Campos Belos, Alexânia, Abadiânia, and Catalão. In Tocantins, the water was sold in Arraias, Combinado, and Novo Alegre. In São Paulo, distribution included Sorocaba, Itapetininga, Itu, São Roque, and Tatuí.
According to the manufacturer, internal testing of more than 300 samples after the notification found no evidence of contamination indicators. Coca-Cola Femsa Brasil also said the recall is being handled by Brasal Refrigerantes, its partner industrial unit, and stated that the affected water was bottled outside its operating area and not linked to its own production or logistics network. The company said all Crystal water produced and distributed by Coca-Cola Femsa Brasil remains safe for consumption.
The investigation remains open, with Anvisa and local health authorities monitoring the case and reviewing the evidence. Early findings indicate the issue is restricted to the specific batch identified by the regulator.
