Anna Friel Leads New Medical Drama The F Ward: Trailer and Premiere Date Revealed

Australian medical drama The F Ward will debut on Stan on July 17, with the streamer releasing the first look at Anna Friel in the lead role of Dr. Gloria Wall. Friel, known for Pushing Daisies and Marcella, plays a formidable doctor who leads a group of medical interns at Pines Hospital as they navigate their final chance to qualify after previously failing their first year as intern doctors.
The six-part series was first reported in October 2025 and was later sold by Paramount at the LA Screenings. It comes from Stan and CBS Studios, with Dan Edwards and Kelsey Munro serving as co-creators and producers for Roadshow Rough Diamond. John Edwards is also producing. The project marks another collaboration for Dan and John Edwards, who founded Roadshow Rough Diamond together about a decade ago.
According to the series synopsis, the new cohort of medical graduates must cope with demanding shifts, personal insecurities and high-pressure life-or-death cases while working in an underfunded public hospital. The interns face a range of emergencies, including premature pregnancies, runaway retirees and difficult surgeries, all while learning on the job and confronting the bureaucracy of the healthcare system. The show also explores romance, friendship and the emotional strain of becoming a doctor.
Alongside Friel, the cast includes Ioane Sa’ula from Bump, Lola Bond from Last Days of the Space Age, Wyllie from Love My Way, Alex Fitzalan from Stan Original Prosper, Emily Barclay from Babyteeth, Annie Boyle from Colin from Accounts, and Rishab Kern.
The writing team includes Munro, Jessica Tuckwell, Shanti Gudgeon, Nick Coyle and Jack Yabsley. The series is directed by Natalie Bailey and Neil Sharma, while Andy Ryan and Alicia Brown serve as executive producers.
Set inside the busy environment of Pines Hospital, The F Ward follows the interns as they struggle to prove themselves in a competitive system where mistakes can be costly and every decision matters. The drama centers on their growth as medical professionals, as well as the bonds they form under pressure.
Stan and CBS Studios have positioned the series as a character-driven medical drama with ensemble storytelling, workplace tension and emotional stakes. The newly released images offer an early glimpse of the show’s tone and cast ahead of its mid-July launch on Stan.
