Alexander Zverev Hits 550 Career Wins with Night-Time Victory at Roland Garros
Alexander Zverev delivered a commanding performance at Roland Garros on Wednesday night, defeating Czech qualifier Tomas Machac in straight sets to advance with ease on Court Philippe Chatrier. The world No. 3 looked sharp from the start, breaking Machac in the opening game and immediately taking control of the match. From there, Zverev maintained pressure on serve and rarely allowed the Czech player any room to settle into a rhythm.
After securing the early break, Zverev closed out the first set without dropping a game on his own serve, showing the consistency and confidence that had already marked his opening-round win over France’s Benjamin Bonzi earlier in the week. In that match, Zverev had also advanced comfortably, winning 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. Against Machac, he was even more dominant, raising his level further under the lights in Paris.
The German continued to build momentum through the second and third sets, breaking serve twice in each frame as the match moved quickly in his favor. He finished the contest in just one hour and 48 minutes, underscoring the efficiency of his performance. Machac was unable to generate sustained pressure on return and never found a way to break Zverev’s serve.
Zverev’s numbers reflected the one-sided nature of the match. He produced 45 winners and committed only 17 unforced errors, a strong ratio that highlighted both aggression and control from baseline to net. His serve was especially effective, as he fired 19 aces and made only two double faults. Perhaps most impressively, he did not lose serve at all, saving the only break point he faced.
On the return side, Zverev made the most of his chances, converting five of his 11 break-point opportunities. That ability to turn openings into decisive moments proved crucial in keeping the match firmly on his terms. With each set, he looked more comfortable and more authoritative, leaving little doubt about the outcome.
The victory was Zverev’s 30th of the season, making him only the second man this year to reach that mark, behind Jannik Sinner, who has 37 wins so far. The result further strengthened Zverev’s position as one of the leading contenders at Roland Garros, where his form has been building steadily. If he continues to serve at this level and maintain his aggressive, efficient play, he will be difficult for any opponent to handle in the rounds ahead.
