Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service launches new Sped portal on gov.br with simpler, more modern navigation

Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service launched a new portal for the Public Digital Bookkeeping System (Sped) on May 29, now integrated into the gov.br/sped environment as part of a broader digital transformation effort. The updated platform is designed to provide a simpler, safer, more accessible, and more efficient experience for users, while aligning Sped more closely with Brazil’s digital government standards.

The new portal replaces a technology structure that had been in place for more than two decades with a modern, sustainable platform built to support long-term digital governance. It also standardizes Sped’s visual identity with the Federal Revenue Service and strengthens its integration into the gov.br ecosystem. A notable feature of the upgrade is that Sped is now the first portal within the agency to be built on Plone 6, the platform adopted in the gov.br environment. According to the agency, this brings improvements in governance, visual consistency, accessibility, security, and technological sustainability.

The redesign introduces several practical benefits for users. Navigation has been reorganized to make content easier to find, and the search function has been improved to help users locate technical documents, guidance notes, and legal regulations more quickly. The portal now uses a responsive layout that works better on smartphones and tablets, while content has been standardized and updated for clearer organization. Accessibility has also been improved to meet current public-sector digital standards, and the new structure allows for faster maintenance and more efficient updates to official information.

The modernization also creates a stronger foundation for future integrations, new features, and ongoing improvements in communication with Sped’s various audiences. Despite the redesign, the Federal Revenue Service emphasized that the migration does not change any rules, filing obligations, systems, or operating procedures related to Sped. The change is strictly technological and focused on improving the user experience, information management, and content organization.

During the transition period, users are advised to update bookmarks and saved links, as URLs will change gradually. Some services may temporarily remain available at their previous addresses depending on the technical rollout schedule, and users may need a short period to adjust to the new structure. Minor temporary instability could also occur during the launch and in the first hours after deployment. Essential content has been preserved, although it has been reorganized within the new environment.

The portal has been designed to better serve different groups that rely on Sped. Companies and accounting professionals will have faster and more organized access to official information, with clearer navigation to technical guidance and legal content. Developers of tax software and representative organizations will benefit from a better structure for consulting technical documentation, versions, orientation notes, and other materials needed to follow the system’s evolution. Partner tax administrations and internal Revenue Service teams will also gain from a more standardized digital presence, with improvements in governance, security, operational efficiency, and content management.

By moving Sped to gov.br, Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service is positioning the system as a reference point for digital transformation, simplification, and transparency. The new portal is also expected to serve as a model for the future evolution of other digital channels operated by the agency, in line with broader efforts to unify, modernize, and improve access to public digital services.
