Morgan Kohan Teases Possible Split for Maggie and Cal on Sullivan’s Crossing

Morgan Kohan is weighing in on the emotional fallout in Sullivan’s Crossing after Maggie’s kiss with her estranged husband, Liam, raises the possibility of a breakup with Cal. In an interview with Us Weekly published around the Monday, June 1 episode of the CW drama, Kohan said the development is a major disruption for any relationship, adding that even strong couples would struggle to recover from such a shock. Still, she expressed optimism about Maggie and Cal’s future, saying she believes the two characters are meant to be together.
The storyline has been building since season 3, which began streaming on Netflix in August 2025. At first, the series only hinted at Liam, played by Marcus Rosner, when Maggie referred to him as a summer fling. The character later emerged in season 4, when Cal, played by Chad Michael Murray, discovered that Maggie was not just hiding an old romance but was actually married to Liam.
That revelation became even more complicated as Maggie and Liam grew closer again. Maggie learned that Liam had not abandoned her for a job, as she had believed, but had instead been held hostage for three years while working as a war journalist. After that truth came out, Maggie and Liam shared a kiss, sending her relationship with Cal into uncertain territory.
Kohan said Maggie’s kiss with Liam was not really a calculated decision, but rather the result of a powerful emotional and physical reaction to everything she had been holding inside. She described the moment as a shock that opened Maggie up and caused all of her buried feelings to surface at once.
The actress also suggested there was an “inevitability” to Maggie and Liam’s resurfacing connection, though she would not reveal how the love triangle will ultimately be resolved. Kohan said she hopes viewers will be satisfied with the direction of the story and would welcome Marcus Rosner returning in future seasons. She added that the cast enjoys working with him and would be open to finding a way for Liam to remain part of the series in some form.
Looking ahead, Kohan said she wants more flashbacks to Maggie’s life before her return to Sullivan’s Crossing. She enjoyed filming scenes that showed a younger version of Maggie and liked seeing the character fully letting go and living in the moment. For Kohan, those scenes helped deepen the audience’s understanding of who Maggie was before her complicated present-day relationships.
Sullivan’s Crossing is currently streaming on Netflix, while season 4 airs Mondays on The CW at 8 p.m. ET.
