The 25-year-old center back reportedly played through the pain despite already being weakened before the match, but his condition worsened during the final. France’s federation is now monitoring the situation closely as Saliba continues to suffer from the injury.
The timing is especially damaging for Didier Deschamps and the French national team, with the World Cup approaching quickly and France’s first match set for June 15, 2026, against Senegal. Saliba, who has earned 31 caps for Les Bleus, had been in contention for a starting role alongside Dayot Upamecano.
