Heated Rivalry Dominates Canadian Screen Awards With 16 Wins
The Canadian Screen Awards were dominated by two television series, with Heated Rivalry and North of North emerging as the night’s biggest winners. The hockey-themed drama Heated Rivalry led the awards overall, taking home major honors including Best Drama Series, Best Directing in a Drama Series, Best Writing in a Drama Series, and Best Lead Performer for Hudson Williams. In total, the series won 16 Screen Awards from 18 nominations, marking a strong showing across both creative and performance categories.
In comedy, the CBC/Netflix Arctic sitcom North of North had a similarly successful night. The series won Best Comedy Series, Best Lead Performer, Best Writing, and Best Supporting Performer, finishing with nine wins from 20 nominations. Its wins made it the top comedy of the ceremony and one of the most recognized productions of the evening.
The awards highlighted a broad range of Canadian film and television talent. In the film categories, Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie won Best Motion Picture, while R.T. Thorne was recognized for Achievement in Direction and Original Screenplay for 40 Acres. The award for Adapted Screenplay went to Mélanie Charbonneau and Martine Pagé for Out Standing.
Individual performance awards also recognized several standout actors. Grace Glowicki won Performance in a Leading Role, Drama for Honey Bunch, while Jay McCarol won Performance in a Leading Role, Comedy for Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie. On television, Hudson Williams was named Best Lead Performer, Drama Series for Heated Rivalry, and Anna Lambe won Best Lead Performer, Comedy for North of North.
The Canadian Academy of Cinema & Television, which presents the awards, describes itself as the country’s largest non-profit professional media arts organization. It supports and celebrates talent in film, television, and digital media through recognition of artistic achievement across the industry.
The results underscored the growing strength of Canadian storytelling in both drama and comedy, with Heated Rivalry and North of North standing out as the most celebrated productions of the night.
