Police Urge Melbourne Community to Stay Alert as Suspect Remains at Large After Two Stabbings

Police are searching for a man accused of carrying out two separate stabbing attacks in Melbourne’s north and east within hours, after allegedly crashing a stolen silver Honda CR-V into a house in Dandenong North and attacking a woman inside. Victoria Police said the vehicle was deliberately driven into a property on Exner Street about 10:15am, where the driver got out and stabbed a woman in her 30s who was known to him. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries to her upper body, was treated at the scene, and taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Investigators believe the same man also stabbed a 40-year-old man at a property in Bradman Terrace, Epping, around 7:15am. Police said that victim, who was also known to the alleged offender, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect fled on foot after the Dandenong North attack and has not yet been found. Police have deployed the airwing, dog squad and additional patrols as part of the search. Inspector Graham Higginbotham said the man is described as African in appearance, with afro-type hair, and was last seen wearing a brown or dark-coloured top and black pants.

Police said the incidents appear to be targeted and linked to people known to the suspect, and they do not believe there is a broader threat to the public at this stage. However, officers urged residents in the affected suburbs to remain alert and report any sighting of a person matching the description.

A neighbour in Dandenong North said she believed she saw the wanted man walking away from the scene shortly after the attack. She described his behaviour as calm and unhurried, saying he appeared to leave the area before disappearing from view.

Police are continuing their investigation and asking anyone with CCTV footage, dashcam video, or eyewitness information from Epping or Dandenong North to contact Triple Zero or Crime Stoppers. Officers said the rapid sequence of events across two suburbs has prompted a major response as they work to locate the man and determine the full circumstances behind the attacks.
