IPL 2026 Final Preview: RCB vs GT Set for High-Stakes Title Clash

The IPL final in Ahmedabad brings together the two strongest teams of the season, with Gujarat Titans enjoying the rare advantage of playing the title match at home. GT’s arrival was delayed by thunderstorms in Chandigarh, leaving them with very little time to settle before the biggest game of their campaign. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, meanwhile, arrive with momentum but also with questions about away form and the pressure of ending an 18-year title drought.
RCB have transformed this season through a powerful batting unit and a fast-bowling attack that has repeatedly struck early. Their top order has been in excellent rhythm, and their playoff performance in Dharamsala was historic, producing the highest score ever seen in the playoffs after contributions from the entire top five. However, their record away from home or at neutral venues has been mixed, and they also have recent memory of losing to GT in Ahmedabad during the league stage, when they were dismissed for 155. Still, RCB’s recent form and their ability to produce match-winning bursts make them dangerous, especially in a final where confidence and timing matter as much as reputation.
Gujarat Titans have built their success around a disciplined, aggressive pace attack led by Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj. Both bowlers have been particularly effective in the powerplay, using pace and precision to target specific weaknesses and create early damage. GT’s bowling strike rate has been the best in the tournament, and it has been even stronger at home. That has helped them turn another deep playoff run into their third final in five seasons, with a second title in five years within reach.
The spotlight will also fall on Tim David and Jason Holder. David has had mixed recent returns, but his explosive power means he can change a match in just a few deliveries. Holder has been a valuable all-round presence for GT, giving the team balance with the ball and helping the captain manage the bowling attack more flexibly. His extra bounce has been a useful weapon on Indian pitches, and he has already taken 17 wickets this season at an economical rate.
There are likely to be a few selection decisions before the final. RCB may bring Phil Salt back if he is fit, though Venkatesh Iyer has already performed well as a replacement. GT, meanwhile, continue to be tested over their middle order after their top order failed in Qualifier 1. Their success has often depended on strong starts from Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan, with Jos Buttler and the lower middle order expected to add stability and finishing power.
The match will be played on the same pitch used for the previous final and for the earlier league meeting between these teams. Ahmedabad has often rewarded teams chasing, and recent IPL finals have also tended to favor the side batting second.
