PBA: Jayson Castro says he was not surprised by McCullough’s big performance

TNT Tropang 5G moved closer to another PBA Finals appearance after Chris McCullough delivered a strong bounce-back performance in the Commissioner’s Cup semifinals against the Meralco Bolts. McCullough, who was signed to replace the injured Bol Bol, answered after a quiet debut by scoring 42 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in Game 4, showing the impact TNT expected from him in a crucial stretch of the series.
McCullough’s performance carried extra meaning because of his history in the league. He previously wore the San Miguel Beer jersey and once gave TNT problems in past playoff battles, including the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup Finals. This time, however, he has become a major asset for the Tropang 5G, helping them gain an edge in the semifinals.
Veteran guard Jayson Castro praised McCullough for his familiarity with the PBA and his ability to fit quickly into TNT’s system. Castro said McCullough already knows what it takes to succeed in the league and described him as a valuable teammate and a proven replacement for Bol Bol. Castro noted that McCullough’s experience is a clear advantage for TNT as they push toward the finals.
TNT now faces a potential series-clinching Game 6 against Meralco on Sunday, with Castro stressing the importance of sustained defense and discipline. He said the team must defend Meralco’s sets well, execute their roles, and match the Bolts’ energy to finish the job.
For TNT, the key to advancing will be continuing the momentum built by McCullough’s breakout outing while maintaining the defensive intensity that has kept them in control of the series. With a finals berth within reach, the Tropang 5G are aiming to turn their semifinal advantage into another championship opportunity.
