Tom Holland Pitches “Spider-Puberty” Story for Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Tom Holland has reflected on a decade of playing Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and his growing influence on the character’s next chapter in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Holland first joined the MCU in Captain America: Civil War and later led a Spider-Man trilogy along with major Avengers crossovers. After stepping away from the role following Spider-Man: No Way Home, he is now returning with a more active creative role in shaping Peter Parker’s future.
According to Holland, this is the first time he has been welcomed into the writers’ room during his time as Spider-Man. He said he and the producers met regularly to share ideas, discuss goals and shape the direction of the film. One of his key contributions helped inspire a major story element in Brand New Day: Peter Parker’s powers evolving in unexpected and unusual ways. Holland described his early idea as “Spider-Puberty,” a concept centered on Peter losing control as his abilities begin to change. Although that exact pitch was not used, he said the studio liked the core idea and developed it into the version now in the movie.
Holland said returning to the role nearly five years after audiences last saw Peter Parker has given him a clearer sense of where the character can go next. He expressed interest in helping set up the future of the Spider-Man franchise beyond his own run, including the introduction of other Spider-heroes such as Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen or Spider-Woman. He said he would be content if he could help create a path for the next generation of characters in the same way Robert Downey Jr. helped launch his own MCU journey.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is positioned as the next phase of Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker, with the actor now not only reprising the role but also helping guide its creative direction. The comments highlight both his long-term connection to the character and Marvel’s evolving approach to the Spider-Man story as it moves into a new era.
Empire will publish its full Spider-Man: Brand New Day cover story in the July 2026 issue, featuring interviews with Holland, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Kevin Feige, Destin Daniel Cretton, Amy Pascal and others. The issue goes on sale Thursday, June 4, and the film is scheduled to reach cinemas on July 29, 2026.
