90s Supergroup Announces First New Song in Eight Years

A Perfect Circle has returned with new music and a collectible release for fans. The alternative rock supergroup unveiled “Starless,” its first standalone single since 2018’s Eat the Elephant, and announced a limited-edition 7-inch vinyl pressing to accompany the track. The release marks a significant moment for the band, which had gone eight years without issuing a new major song before this comeback.

The vinyl edition of “Starless” is being offered through Revolver Magazine in two exclusive color variants. One version features a silver and black A-side/B-side design, while the other comes in white vinyl with sea blue and black splatter. Both editions are foil-numbered and limited to 1,000 copies each, making them highly sought-after collector’s items. The package also includes a custom-branded A Perfect Circle 45-adapter, adding to the appeal for longtime supporters and vinyl collectors.

A Perfect Circle introduced the release in an Instagram post featuring frontman Maynard James Keenan. The caption highlighted the limited pressing and the special vinyl colors, while directing fans to Revolver Magazine for availability. The announcement quickly drew attention because it pairs the band’s first new song in years with a physical release designed as a premium collectible.

The group remains one of the most recognizable supergroups in modern rock, formed by musicians with ties to major acts including Tool, The Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Eagles of Death Metal and Ashes Divide. The current lineup includes Keenan on vocals, Billy Howerdel on lead and rhythm guitar, James Iha on rhythm guitar and keyboards, Matt McJunkins on bass, and Josh Freese on drums and percussion. Their combined backgrounds have long helped define the band’s distinctive sound, which blends heavy riffs, atmospheric production and intense vocal delivery.

“Starless” was officially released on May 27 and was produced by Howerdel at Lankershim Ranch Studio in Studio City, California. He worked on the recording with Grammy-nominated audio engineer Matty Green, known for collaborations with artists such as Florence + the Machine and U2. Howerdel said in an interview cited by Blabbermouth that he was excited to debut the song live in the U.K., noting that A Perfect Circle songs often take on a different energy and expanded personality once performed on stage.

The new single arrives just ahead of the band’s first U.K. and European tour in eight years. The tour begins June 3 in London with a two-night run at O2 Academy Brixton, followed by stops in Germany, Poland, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Croatia, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Germany again, the Czech Republic and Luxembourg. The final show is scheduled for July 4 at Rockhal in Esch-sur-Alzette.

A Perfect Circle last toured Europe in 2018, when it supported Eat the Elephant. The return of new music and a major international tour signals a renewed period of activity for the band after years of relative quiet.
