Sex and the City Star Reveals Major Career Change

Jason Lewis, best known to global audiences as Smith Jerrod from HBO’s “Sex and the City,” is stepping into a major new chapter as a fantasy author. After a period out of the public eye, the former actor and model has returned with a clear plan for a literary project that has grown into an ambitious nine-book saga. Lewis says the series is built around an expansive fictional universe that spans three interconnected trilogies and explores themes including power, agency, tyranny, and redemption.
Lewis revealed that he moved from California to Costa Rica to give himself the time, space, and healthier routine he needed to focus on writing. His daily life now centers on surfing, learning Spanish, and waking before dawn to work on his books. He says he typically writes between 1,000 and 2,000 words a day, usually after a morning walk and coffee, as part of a disciplined routine designed to keep the project moving forward.
One of the most unusual aspects of his plan is that he intends to publish the story out of chronological order. Lewis explained that the first book he plans to release is actually the seventh installment in the overall saga. He said the structure is inspired in part by “Star Wars,” which told parts of its story in a non-linear way. What began as a personal creative idea has expanded into something far larger than he originally expected, turning into a full-scale fantasy universe.
Lewis, now 54, said he went quiet on purpose because he wanted to devote himself fully to the work. In a recent Instagram message, he explained that his silence was not due to a lack of anything to say, but because he had something important to do. He suggested that he is now ready to begin sharing more about the project after years of behind-the-scenes development.
Before becoming widely recognized for his role in “Sex and the City,” Lewis was one of the most prominent male models of his era, appearing in major campaigns and magazine covers. His crossover into acting helped make him a familiar face beyond the fashion world, and his portrayal of Smith Jerrod made him one of the show’s most beloved supporting characters. He later returned for both “Sex and the City” films.
Lewis has also spoken publicly about his personal life. In 2020, he proposed to longtime girlfriend Liz Godwin after several years together. He described her as a constant source of love and support, and said the proposal was carefully planned as a surprise during a day of climbing and beach activities in Malibu. Godwin has said their relationship has been filled with love, fun, and personal growth.
Meanwhile, Lewis’s former on-screen love interest, Kim Cattrall, married longtime partner Russell Thomas in a private ceremony in London in 2025, adding another real-life milestone to the franchise’s history.
