Sex and the City Alum Explains Mysterious Return to Social Media
Jason Lewis, best known for playing Smith Jerrod on Sex and the City, has revealed a major new creative project after returning to social media for the first time in three years. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lewis said he spent his hiatus in Costa Rica learning Spanish and writing a nine-book fantasy series. The actor’s return surprised fans, who had not heard from him publicly in years.
Lewis said the books are part of an epic fantasy storyline divided into three trilogies. He described the project as a large-scale adventure centered on themes of power, agency, tyranny, and redemption. According to Lewis, the series is inspired by classic fantasy in the vein of The Lord of the Rings, but with a more science-based magical framework. He explained that the world-building includes a “hard magic” system influenced by physics, while emphasizing that the books are still meant to be stories, not technical lessons. “It’s not a lecture on physics. It’s magic,” he said.
During his time away from the spotlight, Lewis said he maintained a disciplined writing routine. He described early mornings spent walking or running along the beach, drinking coffee, and settling in for writing sessions. He noted that he would sometimes wake up as early as 4 a.m. to get into the right creative mindset before beginning work on the manuscripts.
At this stage, Lewis has not announced a publication date or revealed which publisher will handle the series. He said those details are still being worked out. Even so, the size and ambition of the project have already drawn attention because it marks a striking shift from acting to long-form fantasy writing.
Lewis rose to fame through his role as the charming model-turned-boyfriend Smith Jerrod on HBO’s hit series Sex and the City. His latest move suggests a new chapter in his career, one that could take him far beyond the world of television. For now, fans will have to wait for more information about when the books will arrive and how the sprawling trilogy-based story will unfold.
The announcement has generated interest not only because of Lewis’s celebrity background, but also because of the unusual scope of the project. Writing nine interconnected books is a significant undertaking for any author, especially one coming from an acting career. Still, Lewis appears committed to seeing the series through and has positioned it as the result of years of focused work.
