Kate Middleton Is the Monarchy’s Secret Weapon, Says Royal Reporter

A royal reporter has described Kate Middleton as one of the most trusted and essential figures in the monarchy, arguing that the Princess of Wales has become a stabilizing force for the House of Windsor during years of major upheaval. In an op-ed for Express, royal reporter Alicia Liberty called Catherine the monarchy’s “secret weapon,” saying she brings a sense of calm, relatability and continuity that continues to resonate with the public.

The article says Kate’s influence within the royal family has grown significantly over the past six years, a period marked by major challenges including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from royal duties in 2020, the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, the controversy surrounding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, and the cancer diagnoses of both King Charles and Kate herself. Despite these pressures, the Princess of Wales has continued to maintain a public image focused on duty, composure and consistency.

Liberty wrote that Kate occupies emotional territory once associated with Princess Diana, noting that the public sees her as approachable and dependable. According to the reporter, women trust her, parents relate to her, and the institution feels more secure when she stands beside Prince William. The op-ed suggests that Kate’s appeal is rooted not in dramatic reinvention, but in her steady presence and ability to connect with people across generations.

The reporter also drew a contrast between Kate’s approach and the public image of Harry and Meghan, arguing that royal relevance is built through long-term consistency rather than frequent image resets. In Liberty’s view, this difference has helped cement Kate’s position as a key figure in the future of the monarchy, especially as the royal family continues to manage internal strain and public scrutiny.

The piece further claims that Kate’s growing authority behind the scenes may make it less likely for outsiders to influence the family’s direction, including any renewed effort to repair relations with Harry and Meghan. Liberty argued that the Princess of Wales is now in a position to help keep the monarchy more unified and stable, particularly as the public role of the Prince and Princess of Wales becomes more central to the institution’s future.

Kate’s recent solo trip to Italy in May 2026 was cited as another example of her increasing confidence and international presence. The article presents the trip as evidence that she is stepping more firmly into a global role while continuing to embody continuity for the royal household.

Liberty concluded that if trust has broken down, reconciliation becomes much harder, and claimed that Catherine no longer trusts Harry and Meghan. The article says this makes a future return to close royal ties unlikely. Kate has not publicly responded to Harry and Meghan’s claims since they stepped away from royal life in 2020, and although Harry has said he would welcome reconciliation, there have been no public signs of progress.
