Gayle King Teases What a Man Can Do to Make Her “Panties Come Off”

Gayle King opened up about her dating preferences during an appearance on Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast, saying she likes “big” men and is attracted to features such as big hands, a big chest, big muscles and big feet. The 71-year-old “CBS Mornings” anchor also said she is drawn to a man with a good sense of humor, saying that laughter is important to her in a relationship. She added that smoking is a dealbreaker on first dates and said she prefers a slightly younger partner who is strong enough to pick her up and carry her across the room.
King also discussed what she wants in an ideal date, saying she enjoys a restaurant followed by a movie, with time afterward to talk about it. During the conversation, she remarked that men her age can sometimes seem boring, while noting that she was speaking from her own experience rather than making a broad generalization.
The interview also turned personal when King revisited one of the most painful chapters of her life: discovering that her then-husband, William Bumpus, had been cheating with a close friend. King said she came home and caught them together, describing the moment as deeply upsetting. She was married to Bumpus from 1982 to 1993, and the two share two children, daughter Kirby and son Will.
After the interview, Bumpus issued a public apology to King and their family, saying he deeply regretted the pain caused by his actions decades ago. He said King has every right to tell her story and expressed gratitude for the children they share. The remarks added another layer of attention to King’s candid podcast appearance, which mixed lighthearted dating confessions with a reflection on a difficult period in her past.
