Gaza City Hospitals Report Several Killed in Strike as Israel Targets Hamas Leaders

The Israeli military said a strike on a car in Khan Younis on Tuesday killed two Hamas figures it described as central to the group’s operations. According to the military, one of those killed was Ihab Khrizim, identified as the head of a Hamas funds transfer network. The other was Mohammed al-Habash, described as a unit commander in Hamas’s production headquarters who was allegedly involved in weapons manufacturing.

The strike took place in Khan Younis, a major city in the southern Gaza Strip that has been at the center of intense fighting during the war. The Israeli military said the men were targeted because of their roles within Hamas’s infrastructure, which it linked to financing and weapons production. The military’s statement framed the operation as part of its broader effort to disrupt Hamas’s command structure and support networks.

Hamas has not immediately issued a public response to the Israeli account of the strike or the identities of the two men. In conflict situations, such claims are often difficult to independently verify in real time, and casualty reports may differ between the parties involved. Still, the Israeli military’s announcement highlights its continuing focus on Hamas personnel it says are connected to both operational and logistical capabilities.

Ihab Khrizim was said to have led a network responsible for transferring funds for Hamas. Such financial channels are considered important for militant groups because they help move money used for recruitment, operations, and weapons procurement. Mohammed al-Habash was described by the military as part of Hamas’s production headquarters, with a role in manufacturing weapons. That type of work is viewed by Israel as directly tied to Hamas’s ability to sustain military activity.

The strike underscores the ongoing pattern of Israeli attacks aimed at Hamas members accused of handling financing, logistics, and weapons development, not only battlefield commanders. By targeting individuals involved in support systems, Israel has sought to weaken Hamas’s ability to organize, equip, and fund its forces over time.

Khan Younis has repeatedly been the scene of airstrikes and ground operations, making it one of the most heavily affected areas in southern Gaza. The city has also become a focal point in the broader Israeli campaign against Hamas, with both military and civilian infrastructure damaged during months of conflict.

The latest Israeli statement adds to the continuing toll of the war and reflects the persistent intensity of operations in Gaza. While Israel says the strike eliminated two key Hamas operatives, the broader situation remains fluid, with disputed narratives, ongoing hostilities, and significant uncertainty over the full impact of each military action.
