A 25-year-old driver died in a collision between two trucks on BR-020 in Posse, in the northeastern region of the state. According to the Fire Department, the vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when they sideswiped each other. The force of the impact threw one of the drivers out of his truck.
Emergency responders said the surviving truck driver was treated at the scene. Witnesses told rescue teams that, before the crash, one of the vehicles’ tires had burst.
The accident caused a fatal outcome for the younger driver and left investigators with early indications that a tire failure may have played a role. The exact circumstances of the collision were not immediately detailed, but the side impact between the two heavy vehicles was severe enough to eject one of the drivers from the cab.
The incident took place on BR-020, a major highway that passes through Posse and connects areas in the region. Heavy vehicle crashes on the route can have serious consequences because of the size and weight of the trucks involved. In this case, the collision resulted in one death and one survivor receiving assistance at the crash site.
Authorities did not immediately release further information about the identity of the victim or the condition of the injured driver beyond confirming that he was rescued at the scene. Witness accounts suggesting a tire blowout will likely be considered as part of the inquiry into what caused the accident.
The wreck serves as another reminder of the risks faced by truck drivers on long-distance highways, where mechanical failures, road conditions, and high-speed impacts can quickly turn into deadly emergencies. In this case, the crash ended in tragedy for one driver and required immediate rescue efforts for the other.
