US Federal Judge and Prominent Cop Caught in Courthouse Affair Over Kissing Sounds and Moaning
A newly confirmed judicial misconduct complaint has brought attention to alleged conduct involving a federal judge and a high-ranking law enforcement official inside a courthouse over a two-year period. According to reports cited by the New York Post and referenced in the complaint, the married judge allegedly carried on a secret sexual relationship with the officer in the judge’s chambers during working hours. The allegations describe the courthouse setting as the site of repeated private encounters while staff members were nearby performing their regular duties.
The complaint says several law clerks were disturbed by what they allegedly heard coming from behind the judge’s closed office door. According to the report, clerks described hearing kissing and moaning noises, leaving some of them uncomfortable and distracted at work. One clerk reportedly found it difficult to sleep or concentrate afterward, while another said the sounds were so unsettling that the clerk left the office for the day. The document also states that one clerk worried about the effect such behavior could have if it became public, given the judiciary’s need to maintain public trust.
The report further alleges that clerks found what appeared to be a semen stain on a couch in the judge’s chambers. Testing later came back negative, but the allegation added to the seriousness of the misconduct complaint and the broader concerns about what had taken place in the courthouse. The law enforcement official involved was described in the report as a prominent division commander in the same district where the judge served, raising possible ethical and conflict-of-interest issues.
The committee that reviewed the matter, the Committee on Judicial Conduct and Disability of the Judicial Conference of the United States, reportedly confirmed the complaint and concluded that the judge’s case assignments involving the officer or the officer’s department were avoided because of chance rather than deliberate safeguards. The committee also noted that the judge’s spouse was unaware of the relationship, creating the possibility of vulnerability to blackmail or extortion.
The judge initially denied the allegations, reportedly calling them outrageous and baseless, but later admitted the relationship during the investigation. Despite the disturbing nature of the claims, the outcome was relatively limited. The judge received a private reprimand, agreed not to pursue a chief judge role, and must send apology letters to six former law clerks who were affected by the situation.
The case has drawn attention because it combines allegations of workplace misconduct, judicial ethics concerns, and a prolonged secret relationship between two officials in positions of public trust. The complaint suggests that the conduct unfolded over an extended period and created discomfort among courthouse staff. While no case involving the officer or the police department was found to have been handled by the judge, the committee said that was due to happenstance rather than intentional conflict avoidance. The revelations have made the matter one of the more unusual courthouse scandals to surface in recent memory.
