Eagles Stars Stay Focused as A.J. Brown Trade Talk Lingers
Jalen Hurts said the Philadelphia Eagles are trying to keep their focus on the task at hand as questions continue to swirl around A.J. Brown’s future and the team’s effort to rebound from a disappointing 2025 season. After winning the Super Bowl in 2024, the Eagles fell into offensive inconsistency during their title defense and were eliminated in the Wild Card Round. Saquon Barkley also saw a sharp drop in production, going from an MVP-caliber first season in Philadelphia, when he rushed for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns, to 1,140 rushing yards and seven scores in 2025.
The Eagles’ passing game also struggled. Jalen Hurts led an offense that finished 23rd in the league, and Brown remained productive with a team-high 78 catches and his fourth 1,000-yard receiving season in four years with the team. Still, Brown was often in the spotlight because of frustration over his role and the offense’s overall efficiency. His relationship with Hurts has been a recurring topic, with speculation only intensifying after Philadelphia failed to repeat as champions.
Hurts addressed the situation on Wednesday, saying the team is focused on learning the offense and improving rather than getting distracted by outside talk. He said the Eagles’ approach has not changed and emphasized that nothing can erase what the group has accomplished together. Hurts also said he and Brown remain on good terms, adding that he was happy for Brown and his family after seeing photos from Brown’s wedding.
For now, Philadelphia is prioritizing stability and preparation as OTAs begin. The team is working to learn offensive coordinator Sean Mannion’s new system and bring younger players, including first-round wide receiver Makai Lemon, up to speed. With a possible trade involving Brown still looming, the Eagles are trying to avoid speculation and stay focused on the parts of the offseason they can control.
Hurts and Barkley are helping set that tone, stressing attention to detail and discipline as the Eagles attempt to reset after a turbulent season. The message from inside the building is clear: control what is controllable now, and let the bigger results follow later.
