“Off Campus” Becomes Amazon Prime Video’s No. 3 Biggest Debut Ever in Ratings

Amazon Prime Video’s new romantic drama series Off Campus, centered on college hockey players, has emerged as one of the streamer’s biggest debut hits. According to Amazon, the series drew 36 million viewers in its first 12 days of streaming, placing it as the third most-watched debut series in Prime Video history. While Amazon does not publicly define how it calculates a “viewer,” the result still signals a major early success for the show.
Only two Prime Video debut series have performed better over the same initial 12-day period: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Fallout. That means Off Campus has outpaced several of the service’s most prominent titles, including The Boys, Reacher and The Summer I Turned Pretty, based on first-season viewership in each title’s opening 12 days.
The series has also delivered especially strong numbers among young women. Amazon said Off Campus is the platform’s No. 1 debut of all time among female viewers ages 18 to 34. That audience overlap is notable because it places the new series in a similar lane to The Summer I Turned Pretty, another teen-and-young-adult romantic drama that became a breakout success for Prime Video. Amazon said The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 reached 70 million viewers in its first 70 days on the service, representing a 65% increase from Season 2’s 70-day total. It was also Amazon’s top television season of all time among women 18 to 34.
The strong performance of Off Campus suggests Prime Video is successfully extending the audience it built with The Summer I Turned Pretty. Both shows target a similar demographic and rely on romance-driven storytelling aimed at teen and young adult viewers. That makes Off Campus a potentially important addition to Amazon’s entertainment lineup, especially as streamers continue to compete for younger audiences with high engagement and repeat viewing potential.
Off Campus stars Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli. The series was created by Louisa Levy, who also serves as co-showrunner alongside Gina Fattore. The two executive produce the series with Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, James Seidman, Leanna Billings and Neal Flaherty.
In a statement, Peter Friedlander, head of global TV at Amazon MGM Studios, praised the fan response and said the show’s success reflects the audience’s trust in the adaptation of Elle Kennedy’s source material. He described the reaction to Season 1 as evidence that viewers are embracing the series and building a passionate community around it.
With its strong launch, Off Campus has quickly established itself as one of Prime Video’s most successful recent original series and a clear win for Amazon’s strategy of investing in young-adult romantic drama.
