Where Every 2026 World Cup Team Will Be Based, by NPR

FIFA has finalized the list of training base camps for the 2026 World Cup, revealing where most national teams will prepare across the United States, Canada and Mexico ahead of the tournament’s June 11 kickoff. Although not every city will host a match, more than 20 U.S. cities in 19 states will serve as training sites for national teams during the expanded event, which runs through July 19 and will be the largest World Cup in history. Forty-eight teams will compete, and 39 of them will be based in the United States. The tournament marks the first men’s World Cup held in the U.S. since 1994 and is expected to bring significant economic activity to host communities and training locations alike.

In Arizona, Turkey will train at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa. California will host seven teams, including Australia in Oakland, Paraguay in San Jose, the United States in Irvine, Qatar in Santa Barbara, Austria in Goleta, New Zealand in San Diego and Switzerland at the San Diego Jewish Academy. Florida will serve as a base for Cape Verde in Tampa, Curaçao in Boca Raton and Portugal in Palm Beach Gardens. Georgia will house Uzbekistan at Atlanta United’s training center in Atlanta.

Several Midwest states are also part of the lineup. Argentina will train at Sporting KC’s facility in Kansas City, Kansas, while Algeria will be based at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. In Missouri, England will use the Swope Soccer Village and the Netherlands will train at the KC Current’s facility. In Ohio, Ecuador will prepare at the OhioHealth Performance Center in Columbus.

In the Northeast, France will train at Bentley University near Boston. New Jersey will host Haiti at Stockton University, Morocco at Pingry School, Senegal at Rutgers University and Brazil at Columbia Park Training Facility, home of the New York Red Bulls. Ghana will be based at Bryant University in Rhode Island, and Ivory Coast will train at Subaru Park in Philadelphia. Virginia will host Croatia at Episcopal High School in Alexandria.

Other teams are spread across the South and West. Norway will train at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Germany at Wake Forest University and Scotland at Charlotte FC’s training facility. Japan will be based at Nashville SC’s training center, while Spain will train at Baylor School in Chattanooga. In Texas, Saudi Arabia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sweden and Czechia will each train at different venues across Austin, Houston, Frisco and Mansfield. Belgium will train in Renton, Washington, while Egypt will be based at Gonzaga University in Spokane.

Outside the U.S., Canada and Panama will train in Canada, while Colombia, South Korea, Mexico, South Africa, Uruguay and Tunisia will be based in Mexico. Iran initially planned to train in Tucson, Arizona, but later requested a move to Mexico.
