Alec Baldwin Reveals the Message He’s Teaching His Children
Alec Baldwin said his greatest wish for his children is that they grow up with hope, sharing a candid message about parenting during the premiere of the documentary Gaslit on June 12. Speaking exclusively to E! News, the 68-year-old actor and political activist said he wants to instill resilience and optimism in the children he shares with wife Hilaria Baldwin: Carmen, 12; Rafael, 10; Leonardo, 9; Romeo, 8; Eduardo, 5; Maria Lucia, 5; and Ilaria, 3. He also is father to daughter Ireland, 30, from his previous marriage to Kim Basinger.
Baldwin said he believes children need to see adults continue fighting for a better future, especially at a time when he feels the world has become increasingly discouraging. He described hope as something parents must actively protect and pass on, saying that young people should learn that they can still help shape society through persistence and responsibility. Baldwin tied that message to a broader concern about power, arguing that people should keep working to prevent abuse of authority and to make sure leadership serves the public rather than harms it.
While his comments were serious and reflective, Baldwin added a lighter note by joking that he had once wanted something different for his children. The remark offered a brief moment of humor after a more emotional discussion about parenting, civic duty, and the importance of maintaining optimism in difficult times.
Baldwin’s comments come as he continues to speak publicly about issues that matter to him beyond acting, including politics and social responsibility. His remarks at the Gaslit premiere highlighted how his role as a father shapes the way he views the world and the message he hopes to leave with his children.
