Box Office: Disclosure Day Debuts Globally With $94M Opening Earnings

Universal and Amblin’s Steven Spielberg alien sci-fi film Disclosure Day is off to a much stronger-than-expected global start, opening to $93.9 million worldwide. The film had initially been projected to launch closer to $65 million, but its performance overseas has significantly outpaced expectations, helping lift the overall debut. The movie earned $49.9 million internationally and $44 million in North America, where the ensemble cast led by Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Josh O’Connor, and Colin Firth received a B Cinemascore.

The film has taken the No. 1 spot in most of the markets tracked in the report, with Germany the only major territory where it sits at No. 2. Strong turnout in premium formats, especially Imax and other large-format screens, has been a key part of the launch, with older audiences also showing up in larger numbers across several territories.

In the UK and Ireland, Disclosure Day added $1.6 million on Friday, bringing the three-day total to $3.8 million. The market is heading toward a $7.3 million weekend, excluding previews, with the film performing ahead of several recent comparables and showing strong demand at the BFI Imax in London. The BFI site remained the top venue for a third straight day, with evening shows heavily sold out. Imax represents 11% of the film’s business in the territory, while the BFI alone accounts for 20%. Odeon is the leading circuit overall, though premium chain Everyman gained momentum on Friday, suggesting an older audience was increasingly choosing a more upscale viewing experience.

In France, the film collected $500,000 on Friday for a $1.5 million three-day total, and is on pace for $3.7 million over the weekend. It is drawing a 22% market share and posting the best average per screen in the country, with admissions more than doubling those of the second-placed local title. Premium screens are contributing meaningfully, with PLFs accounting for 8% of sales and Imax for 5%.

Mexico delivered $740,000 on Friday and $1.6 million over three days, with the film representing 31% of the market’s weekend box office despite competition from World Cup screenings. The weekend is projected at $3.5 million. Australia reached $2.1 million across four days, including an early Saturday estimate of $1 million, and is heading toward nearly $3 million. Spain reported $800,000 on Friday, while Brazil brought in $700,000 from 972 screens for a $1.5 million three-day total.

Other strong openings include Italy, where the film has taken 39% of the market and is tracking toward $2.2 million, and Hong Kong, which has generated about $500,000 in three days and is looking at a $1 million opening. The Netherlands posted $500,000 in its first three days, and Poland added $400,000, with both markets showing solid premium-format support. Overall, Disclosure Day is emerging as a major international box office performer well above early forecasts.
