Rangers Monitoring Former Club Teammate of Ibrox Star, USMNT Cap Reportedly on Radar

Rangers are stepping up their search for defensive reinforcements as they prepare for the new campaign, with centre-back and full-back positions among their main priorities. Nasser Djiga and Derek Cornelius have both returned to their parent clubs after loan spells, leaving gaps in the heart of defence, while Jayden Meghoma’s return to Brentford has reduced options at left-back. Dujon Sterling remains the only established right-back on the books, and Rangers are also looking to fill the vacancy left by former captain James Tavernier.
One player under consideration is Bryan Reynolds, the 24-year-old Westerlo defender who has been with the Belgian club since 2013 and has earned seven caps for the United States national team. Reynolds developed at FC Dallas before an unsuccessful spell at AS Roma, and he is not part of the U.S. squad for this summer’s World Cup. Reports in Belgium suggest Westerlo are bracing for interest as he enters the final year of his contract, which could make him a realistic target for clubs looking to strengthen at right-back.
Rangers’ interest in Reynolds comes after a productive recent relationship with Westerlo. Tuur Rommens moved from the Belgian side to Glasgow in the winter transfer window and quickly made an impression at Ibrox, while former Rangers coach Issame Charai is now in charge at Het Kuipje. Charai previously helped facilitate a loan move for Clinton Nsiala in January, underlining the growing links between the two clubs.
Reynolds is not the only defender on Rangers’ radar. Casper Widell, the 23-year-old Excelsior centre-back, has also been monitored by the club after being tracked throughout the Eredivisie season. Widell made 34 league appearances and scored once in a win over Groningen, and he has drawn interest from Blackburn Rovers and Derby County as well, according to reports from his homeland.
The recruitment drive is already under way, with Lawrence Shankland arriving last month as Rangers begin shaping their squad for the months ahead. The club are expected to continue adding depth and competition across the back line as they look to build a squad capable of meeting the demands of the new season. With several departures and contract situations creating uncertainty, Rangers are actively assessing options and are likely to face competition for some of their leading targets.
