Patrick Bruel to Face Judge on Wednesday After Rape and Sexual Assault Allegations

French singer Patrick Bruel will be brought before an investigating judge on Wednesday, June 10, after police custody linked to multiple accusations of rape and sexual assault was extended by 24 hours, according to information reported on Tuesday, June 9. The case is being handled by prosecutors in Nanterre, which has centralized the various proceedings involving the artist. Prosecutors said the allegations currently concern 13 victims, and Bruel’s custody is due to end Wednesday morning.
The development follows the filing of new complaints. On Monday, two additional rape complaints, dated May 27 and June 3, were filed by two women, according to their lawyer, Corinne Herrmann. She also said two more complaints for rape are expected to be filed next week. On Tuesday, a 46-year-old actress also accused Bruel of rape, and her lawyer said she has decided to file a formal complaint.
Bruel, 67, has been questioned since Monday morning in Paris in connection with the allegations. His lawyers said in a statement that he is available to the justice system and wants to respond within the judicial process before the competent authorities. They added that he would answer all investigators’ questions and provide all necessary elements to prove his innocence.
The singer has denied all of the accusations. He is facing growing legal pressure as the number of complaints increases. In response to the controversy, Bruel has announced the cancellation of most of his upcoming tour, which had been scheduled to begin in mid-June in Paris before continuing at summer festivals.
