Michelle Obama Reveals the Reality TV Show She Would Join

Michelle Obama has revealed that if she ever joined a reality competition, she would choose Peacock’s The Traitors rather than The Real Housewives. During a recent appearance on the Lemme Say This podcast, the former First Lady said she is a fan of unscripted television but would not want to be a Housewives cast member. Instead, she said she would prefer the strategic, high-stakes format of The Traitors, where she would want to play as a “faithful” and try to identify the traitor.
Obama also said the only part of the Real Housewives franchise that truly interests her is the reunion episodes, where cast members revisit conflicts after the season ends. She joked that she has too many questions for the women who spend months arguing and still keep meeting for dinner. Her comments quickly drew attention from Bravo host and executive producer Andy Cohen, who publicly invited her to attend any reunion taping she wants.
Her reality TV fandom is not new. On a July 2025 episode of her podcast IMO With Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson, Obama said her husband, former President Barack Obama, and their daughters tease her about how much she watches reality shows, especially The Real Housewives. She defended the habit by comparing reality TV drama to sports commentary, saying both offer ongoing conflict, strong personalities, and social tension that can be fascinating to observe. Obama described it as a kind of “sociological study” rather than mere entertainment.
She has made similar comments before, including on Sophia Bush’s Work in Progress podcast, where she said she turns to unscripted television as a way to unwind after demanding days and give her brain a break at night. For Obama, reality TV appears to be both a source of entertainment and a way to study human behavior, whether on competition shows, reunion specials, or long-running ensemble franchises.
The remarks add another pop-culture moment to Obama’s public profile, showing her comfort with discussing personal tastes in a light, relatable way. They also highlight the enduring influence of reality television, which continues to attract viewers across politics, entertainment, and sports. While she may never become a full-time reality star, Obama made it clear that she would be open to stepping into the world of The Traitors if the opportunity ever came.
