Lisa Rinna Warns Spencer Pratt Could Be Next Mayor of Los Angeles at AMAs

Lisa Rinna said she does not support Spencer Pratt’s bid to become the next mayor of Los Angeles, weighing in on the city’s increasingly unusual political race during a red-carpet interview at the American Music Awards in Las Vegas. Speaking to Variety at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Rinna said she had not yet decided whom she would back in the contest, but made clear that Pratt was not her pick.

Pratt, best known for MTV’s reality series “The Hills,” has drawn attention in the mayoral field by criticizing incumbent Karen Bass over Los Angeles’ response to the January 2025 Palisades fire. Pratt and his wife, Heidi Montag, lost their home in the wildfire. Despite that personal history, Rinna pushed back on the idea of a reality television figure taking City Hall.

“Not a reality star, though,” she said, adding that while she loves Pratt, “we’ve already done that.” Her comment appeared to reference Donald Trump, whose fame grew through NBC’s “The Apprentice” before he entered politics at the national level.

When asked why Pratt has been attracting support from some corners of the entertainment industry, Rinna replied candidly that she did not understand the appeal. “You got me, because listen, I’m a reality person. You wouldn’t want me as mayor, really,” she said. “Let’s just face it, I love him. I think he’s amazing. I just think we did that.”

Rinna briefly mixed up the Los Angeles mayoral race with California’s broader political contests, mentioning the state’s June 2 primary and the 2026 election cycle. She also suggested she would prefer an experienced elected official rather than another celebrity candidate, saying the city should choose “somebody that’s already been mayor.”

She then mentioned Matt Mahan, saying she liked him and liked him “for governor,” before conceding she may have misidentified his current race. Mahan is actually the mayor of San Jose and a candidate in California politics, not a gubernatorial contender.

At the event, Rinna wore a brown oversized suit and a long polka-dot tie featuring President John F. Kennedy. Her remarks came amid continued interest in her own long-running television career and public persona.

Rinna first rose to fame on NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” and later appeared with husband Harry Hamlin in the TV Land series “Harry Loves Lisa.” She also became a major Bravo figure on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” where she appeared from 2014 to 2022. Since then, she and Hamlin have remained active across talk shows, reality TV, and competition formats.

The comments added a new pop-culture twist to a political season already drawing attention for its mix of celebrities, local officials, and unconventional campaigns.
