The One Show Presenter Shares Health Update After Returning From Illness

The One Show welcomed back presenter Alex Jones on Wednesday, June 3, after she had been absent from the BBC programme earlier in the week because of illness. Jones missed Monday and Tuesday editions, with JB Gill stepping in to host alongside Roman Kemp before she returned to the sofa with Angellica Bell.
Her comeback was confirmed on Instagram before the live broadcast, where Bell told viewers, “Good news, everyone. Alex is back!” Jones said she was feeling better, though still “slightly croaky,” and added that she had “nearly recovered” as the programme began. She also said she was glad to be back on the show.
During the episode, Jones and Bell introduced the evening’s guests, comedian Dara Ó Briain and singer Shania Twain, as the show continued its usual mix of interviews and topical discussion.
Jones has been one of The One Show’s best-known presenters for many years and has been on the BBC series since 2010. Over that time, she has hosted alongside a range of co-presenters including Matt Baker, Ronan Keating and Roman Kemp. She is a familiar face to viewers and has become closely associated with the programme’s main sofa.
In a BBC interview last year, Jones reflected on her long run on the show and said she felt proud to have been part of the “iconic sofa” for so long. She noted that the programme still felt fresh and said its continued success came from the way it evolves while staying connected to everyday life and major national events.
Jones also said she felt she had grown up with the audience, explaining that viewers had seen her through major personal milestones, including getting engaged, marrying her husband Charlie and having three children. She described the show’s audience as being like an extended family.
The presenter said The One Show remains popular because it reflects what is happening across the country, from everyday moments to major stories that affect viewers nationwide. The programme, which airs on BBC One on weekday evenings at 7pm, continues to be a regular fixture in British television scheduling.
