French Open 2026 live: Kalinskaya vs Chwalinska and Sabalenka vs Shnaider in quarter-finals

On day 11 of Roland Garros, the Paris crowds saw a mix of breakthrough stories, comeback narratives and expected dominance as the quarter-finals unfolded on Court Philippe-Chatrier. The headline in the women’s draw was Maja Chwalinska’s continued dream run. The Polish qualifier, who had previously won only one Grand Slam match before this tournament, showed remarkable composure and creativity against 22nd seed Anna Kalinskaya. Chwalinska used slice, variety and drop shots to disrupt the Russian’s rhythm, taking control with timely breaks and building a commanding lead. Her run in Paris has already included upset wins over Zheng Qinwen, Elise Mertens and Maria Sakkari, and it has become one of the tournament’s most striking stories. Her journey is especially notable because she previously stepped away from tennis to deal with depression and has spoken about learning to separate her identity from results on court.

The biggest result of the day came from Marta Kostyuk, who ended the Ukraine derby against Elina Svitolina with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 victory to reach her first Grand Slam semi-final. Kostyuk, once regarded as a teenage prodigy burdened by expectation, has looked transformed during a career-best clay-court season. She arrives in the last four on a 17-match winning streak after titles in Rouen and Madrid, and her maturity and clarity on court have become central to her progress. After the match, Kostyuk dedicated the victory to the people of Ukraine, speaking emotionally about the war and the difficult night her country had just endured. The tournament has repeatedly been framed by the conflict, including news that a Russian missile had struck close to her family home in Kyiv shortly before her first-round match.

Kostyuk’s next opponent will be 19-year-old Mirra Andreeva, who continued her rise by defeating Sorana Cirstea 6-0, 6-3. The Russian teenager reached her second semi-final in Paris and is set for a rematch with Kostyuk after their recent Madrid Open final. Andreeva said she tries to focus on the ball and her game plan rather than the identity of the player on the other side of the net.

In the men’s draw, Alexander Zverev advanced to another French Open semi-final with a 7-6(3), 6-1, 6-3 win over Rafael Jódar. Jódar started brightly and even led 5-2 in the opening set, but Zverev steadied himself, took the first set, and then controlled the rest of the match with strong serving and free-hitting from the baseline. With several top players already eliminated from the men’s draw, Zverev now looks well placed as one of the few proven contenders left. The bracket has opened up dramatically, leaving Felix Auger-Aliassime as the only remaining top-10 player in the upper half, while several players have been worn down by long five-set battles in a chaotic fortnight in Paris.

The day’s order of play also featured Sabalenka against Diana Shnaider, along with Felix Auger-Aliassime versus Flavio Cobolli and an all-Italian night-session match between Matteo Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi.
