Charles Leclerc signs Ferrari contract extension through 2028 ahead of Monaco Grand Prix【

Charles Leclerc has signed a two-year contract extension with Ferrari that will keep him at the team until the end of the 2028 Formula 1 season, according to Sky Sports News. His previous deal had been due to expire at the end of 2026. The new agreement extends a long-running partnership between the Monegasque driver and the Italian team, which began when he joined Ferrari’s driver academy in 2016.
Leclerc said he was “couldn’t be happier” to continue with Scuderia Ferrari HP and described the team as more than just a racing outfit. He said Ferrari had become a “second family” and stressed his determination to help bring the world championship back to Maranello. Leclerc added that being a Ferrari driver is both a dream and a responsibility, and pledged to give everything he has to help the team return to the top for the benefit of Ferrari staff and fans.
The 28-year-old is currently third in the 2026 Formula 1 standings, behind Mercedes drivers Kimi Antonelli and George Russell. He is now Ferrari’s second-most capped driver and ranks second in the team’s all-time pole position list, behind Michael Schumacher.
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur said the renewal was a natural step, noting that Leclerc has been part of the Ferrari family for many years. Vasseur said he has seen Leclerc grow into one of the strongest drivers in Formula 1 and into someone who is fully aligned with Ferrari’s identity and ambitions.
The contract news comes as Formula 1 prepares for the start of its European summer run. The Monaco Grand Prix is the first of six races in eight weeks, with live coverage on Sky Sports F1 beginning Friday.
