Phillies vs. Padres Odds, Picks and Predictions

The Philadelphia Phillies visit the San Diego Padres on Monday night to open a three-game series at Petco Park in San Diego. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET. The matchup comes with the Phillies sitting at 26-27 and the Padres at 31-21, while the 2025 season series is tied 3-3.

Philadelphia enters the game after a difficult homestand in which it went 2-4 and lost four of its final five contests. The Phillies dropped Sunday’s finale 3-1 to the Cleveland Guardians, managing only six hits against Cleveland starter Patrick Messick and four relievers. Rookie right-hander Andrew Painter took the loss, allowing two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings and suffering his fifth straight decision defeat. The Phillies have struggled to generate offense during their recent slide, scoring just nine total runs over their last five games.

San Diego also arrives off a loss, falling 5-2 to the Athletics on Sunday to finish its homestand 3-3. The Padres took two of three from Oakland before dropping the finale, despite collecting nine hits. Their offense got a home run from first baseman Ty France, his fifth of the season, and a sacrifice fly from third baseman Manny Machado. The Padres have won six of their last nine games and have been more productive at home, where they are 16-13 this season.

The pitching matchup features left-hander Jesus Luzardo for Philadelphia against right-hander Randy Vasquez for San Diego. Luzardo is 3-4 with a 4.85 ERA in 10 starts, carrying a 1.31 WHIP, 2.4 walks per nine innings and 10.7 strikeouts per nine across 55 2/3 innings. In his most recent outing, he took the loss after allowing two runs in six innings against the Reds. He has been better on the road in 2026, going 2-0 with a 1.52 ERA in four starts, and he has a career 1-4 record with a 4.50 ERA versus the Padres.

Vasquez enters at 5-2 with a 2.96 ERA over 10 starts. He has a 1.19 WHIP, 2.6 walks per nine and 7.4 strikeouts per nine in 54 2/3 innings. His last start was a rough one, as he allowed three runs in 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Dodgers. At home this season, Vasquez is 3-1 with a 4.20 ERA in six starts, and he has limited history against Philadelphia, though it was a poor one: 0-1 with a 12.46 ERA in one appearance.

BetMGM listed the Phillies as slight road favorites at -130, with the Padres at +105. The run line set Philadelphia at -1.5 (+135) and San Diego at +1.5 (-165), while the total was 7.5 runs. The betting recommendation leans toward the Padres at plus money and the under 7.5. The projected score is Padres 4, Phillies 3, with the expectation that both clubs’ recent offensive struggles and strong recent under trends could keep the game low-scoring.
