2026 Emmy Awards: Best Outstanding TV Movie Predictions

The Emmy race in the newly renamed Outstanding Movie category is taking shape as streamers position several high-profile titles for consideration ahead of the 2026 television awards season. Variety’s updated Awards Circuit outlook notes that the competition remains fluid, with predictions changing weekly as buzz, eligibility timing and campaign momentum continue to shift.

HBO Max has made a late push with “Miss You, Love You,” a project that slid in near the Emmy eligibility deadline. Written by Oscar winner Jim Rash, the film stars Emmy favorite Allison Janney alongside Andrew Rannells. The project was acquired by HBO Films after a secret buyers screening at Sundance, and the platform is now aiming to place it in the outstanding movie field.

Netflix appears to have one of the strongest lineups in the category, fielding three notable contenders. Those include “Remarkably Bright Creatures,” adapted from the popular novel and starring Sally Field; “People We Meet on Vacation,” based on the Emily Henry romance novel; and “Ruth and Boaz,” a love story that adds to the streamer’s crowded awards slate. With three potential entries, Netflix is positioned to be a major force in the category.

Other streamers are also making visible plays. Prime Video is backing “Deep Cover,” a film from director Tom Kingsley that won over the Writers Guild of America. Hulu has two titles in the mix: “Mike and Nick and Nick and Alice,” starring James Marsden and Vince Vaughn, and “Swiped,” led by Lily James, who also serves as executive producer.

The category is part of a broader Emmy calendar that is now set. Nomination-round voting runs from June 11 to June 22, with nominations to be announced on July 8. Final voting is scheduled for August 17 through August 26. The season then moves into the Creative Arts Awards and Governors Gala on September 5 and 6, before concluding with the 2026 Emmy Awards ceremony on September 14 on NBC.

As the timeline advances, the outstanding movie category is expected to become one of the more closely watched Emmy contests, especially with streamers leading the field and last-minute acquisitions still capable of altering the race. Variety’s updated predictions underscore that no contender has secured a definitive lead, and the balance could change quickly as campaigns ramp up in the coming weeks.
