Video circulated online reportedly shows the horrifying moment as bystanders realized the rope had been left on the ground, with one witness shouting in alarm while filming the scene.
Authorities say Maria Eduarda fell about 40 meters, or roughly 131 feet, after being sent over the bridge by staff members connected to the bungee jumping operation. Emergency crews, including a police helicopter, responded quickly, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident has shocked the local community and those who knew her. Reports say she had recently graduated in physical education and sports management and had purchased a guided package for the bridge jump as part of what was meant to be a celebratory outing.
