Wild to Re-Sign Michael McCarron on Six-Year, $19.8 Million Deal

The Minnesota Wild are set to re-sign forward Michael McCarron to a six-year contract worth $19.8 million, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
McCarron, 31, joined Minnesota after being acquired from the Nashville Predators ahead of the NHL trade deadline this season. His addition gave the Wild a bigger forward presence and extra depth for the stretch run and playoffs.
In 20 regular-season games with Minnesota, McCarron produced three goals and two assists. He also contributed in the postseason, scoring two goals and adding two assists in 11 playoff appearances. His ability to chip in offensively while bringing size and physicality made him a useful piece for the Wild after the trade.
Across his NHL career, McCarron has appeared in 381 games with the Wild, Predators and Montreal Canadiens. He has totaled 36 goals and 43 assists in that span. Drafted 25th overall by Montreal in the 2013 NHL Draft, McCarron has developed into a veteran role player who can provide energy, depth scoring and a strong presence along the boards.
The reported new deal signals Minnesota’s interest in keeping McCarron as part of its long-term roster plans. After joining the team late in the season, he showed enough value in both the regular season and playoffs to earn a significant multi-year commitment.
McCarron’s career has included stops in Montreal and Nashville before his arrival in Minnesota. While he has never been known as a high-volume scorer, he has carved out a role as a dependable bottom-six forward who can contribute offensively when needed and bring a physical edge to matchups.
The six-year term indicates the Wild are betting on McCarron’s size, experience and fit within their lineup beyond the short term. His postseason production for Minnesota may have further strengthened his case for a new contract, as the team looks to build on its recent performance and maintain depth across the forward group.
No additional details on the deal were immediately provided beyond the reported length and value.
