Prime Video’s Raunchy R-Rated Hit Overtakes New Superhero Blockbuster on Streaming

Prime Video’s new superhero series Spider-Noir briefly climbed to the top of the streamer’s rankings, but its reign was short-lived. The Nicolas Cage-led show, which premiered on May 27, earned strong early attention and critical praise, including a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics and 93% from viewers. Set in 1930s New York, Spider-Noir offers a darker, more mature version of the Spider-Man universe. Cage plays Ben Reilly, a weary private investigator drawn back into his old life as the city’s masked hero, known as The Spider, when a new case forces him to confront his past. The series can be watched in either black-and-white or color and also stars Brendan Gleeson, Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, and Karen Rodriguez. It reached No. 1 on both Prime Video’s U.S. and Global Top 10 charts, overtaking popular titles such as The Boys and Citadel.

However, Spider-Noir’s momentum was quickly challenged by Off Campus, Prime Video’s raunchy romance series that has become a strong performer since its debut on May 13. Based on Elle Kennedy’s bestselling book series, the eight-episode show follows the relationship between a music student and a charismatic hockey player after a fake-dating arrangement turns into something genuine. Starring Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli, the series has connected with audiences and critics alike, holding a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics and an 88% Popcornmeter rating.

After briefly slipping behind Spider-Noir, Off Campus has returned to the top of Prime Video’s charts, reclaiming the No. 1 spot on both the U.S. and Global Top 10 lists. According to Amazon News, it was also the most popular show on the streaming platform for the week of May 25–31. Its continued strength is notable because streaming series often lose steam over time, but Off Campus has maintained its audience well beyond launch.

Amazon had already renewed Off Campus for a second season before the first season premiered, signaling confidence in the series. Season 2 will follow the third book in Kennedy’s Off Campus series, The Score, and shift the focus to Hannah’s best friend Allie, played by Mika Abdalla, and Garrett’s friend Dean, played by Stephen Kalyn. The first season introduced their dynamic in the background, but the next chapter will bring their romance to the forefront. Bright and Cameli will still return as Hannah and Garrett, keeping the original leads involved as the story expands.

Production on Season 2 is already underway, though Prime Video has not announced an official release date. Based on the current pace, the new season is expected to arrive in May 2027 or possibly earlier. For viewers who have not yet started the series, all eight episodes of Off Campus Season 1 are now available to stream on Prime Video.
